HOPE BELONGS HERE is a Capital Building Campaign intentioned to support the vision and mission of City of Refuge through building of The Refuge: a 16,500 sq./ft. three story, multi-use campus with housing for up to 25 families, a restaurant, and a trauma-informed childcare facility adjacent to the existing location of City of Refuge Resource Center. The Refuge will support holistic transformation for under resourced individuals affected by a history of brokenness, abuse and exploitation.
Refuge Housing currently consists of three-tier programming: Emergency, Long-term Transitional, and Sustainable Independent Living services. On the second and third floors The Refuge will provide up to 25 family housing units (suites), supportive housing offered to young women (over 18) and their children to continue their rehabilitative care in the face of addiction, abuse, exploitation, and human trafficking.
Providing for the physical needs of women and children, is a first step. City of Refuge also provides trauma-based, programs and services for women, men, and children including: counseling services, anger management, parenting classes, addiction recovery, and programs to promote wholistic physical, mental, spiritual and emotional healing.
Young women at The Refuge need the support, peace of mind, and the freedom to pursue their own healing, education, and job opportunities necessary to create a sustainable future for themselves and their children. Trauma-Informed, supportive childcare and respite are huge needs all mothers face. Without it, the cycle of poverty, abuse, and brokenness will easily continue into the next generation.
The goal is to empower individuals with the needed life skills and training to build a sustainable, independent future, breaking the cycle of poverty, abuse and exploitation for generations to come. The Refuge will feature a restaurant home for HauteBird (currently hosting pop-ups all over Sacramento) with a trauma-informed work environment and allow the opportunity to gain work experience. This restaurant will expand its employment opportunities beyond the women living onsite, to include transitional-age youth within Oak Park and surrounding communities.
